A LOVERLEY TREAT FOR THE FALL SEASON
What a loverley treat coming your way this fall! The musical made famous by Julie Andrews and Audrey Hepburn is coming for a limited time only to the Alaska Center, as part Broadway in Anchorage season. This charming and uplifting production sees a musical adaption of George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, and is set in turn-of-the-century London. Follow Eliza Dolittle as she rises through society from Cockney flower girl to elegant socialite, with the help of a grumpy linguistics professor.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Eliza Doolittle is a poor East London girl selling flowers on the street from her basket, when by chance she encounters Henry Higgins, a misanthropic linguistics professor who makes a wager that he can transform her into a society lady, purely by teaching her to speak proper English (or as the Brits call it, Received Pronounciation). What follows is a tumultuous, hilarious yet touching journey of self-discovery for both characters, as she blossoms slowly into a socialite, and he finds himself falling in love with her.
The music from this award-winning show includes age-old iconic show tunes such as The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night and the sentimental I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face. Watch and laugh as this story of British culture clashes provides excellent comedic moments, accompanied by stellar music and an unconventional love story.
